6 Camping Desserts That Aren't S'mores

I love a good s'more. Chocolate with a gooey marshmallow - it's a classic. But sometimes when I'm camping, I want to change it up. I'm always on the lookout for s'more dessert options, ya know? Here are some of my favorite sweet tooth cures that aren't your classic s'more.

1. Campfire Cones

Basically an ice cream sundae without the ice cream. Grab some waffle cones, and fill them with all of the goodies your heart desires. Go classic with chocolate chips and marshmallows, and get creative with strawberries and Nutella and bananas and nuts. Put it all in your cone, wrap it in foil, and put it over the fire for 7 - 10 minutes. Your taste buds will thank you.

2. Cinnamon Rolls

A quick and easy sweet treat. All you need is a tube of cinnamon roll dough, a roasting stick, and of course, icing. Pull the dough out of the tube, roll it out flat, wrap it around the marshmallow toaster stick, and hold them over the fire. Rotate them like you would a perfectly golden brown marshmallow - slowly, evenly and not directly in the fire (like those crazy burnt marshmallow fools). Make sure they're cooked all the way through, and devour!

3. Apple Bites

A fresh dessert that packs a big crunch. Slice an apple into thin chips. It's easiest to cut the apple horizontally, and not vertically like we normally do. Top it with some peanut butter, and stick on a bunch of different toppings. Go crazy with chocolate chips, coconut flakes, nuts, dried fruits, and so many others. You could even drizzle a little honey over the top for a sweeter flavor! Ants on a log, meet your sweet cousin, the apple bite.

4. Banana Boats

A fruity twist on the classic s'more. Leave the peel on, and slice down the length of a banana, but be careful to not cut it all the way through! Just like the campfire cones, fill it with all your favorite goodies. I love strawberries and Nutella, but there are so many other delicious combinations. Wrap it up in foil, and put it over the fire for 7 - 10 minutes. Unwrap, and enjoy!

5. S'mores Nachos

The shareable version of s'mores. Grab one of those tin pans, and fill the bottom with graham crackers. Layer marshmallows, chocolate chips, any other fun toppings and more graham crackers until you've filled the whole pan up to the top. Put it over the fire until it's perfectly warm and melty. It's the perfect amount to share with your friends and family, but we also can't blame you for keeping it all for yourself.

6. S'mores in a Bag

The "walking taco" version of s'mores. This one's super easy! Just open up a bag of Teddy Grahams, toss in a handful of chocolate chips, roast your marshmallow to golden brown perfection, and put it in the bag. Toss in a couple of other toppings, if you so choose, and mix it all up so it's nice and gooey. Then, just eat with a fork! Really switch it up by buying the little bags of flavored Teddy Grahams, like chocolate or cinnamon. A favorite for all ages.

Those are my picks! Got any s'more suggestions? Leave them in the comments!
