Wild Keeper Spotlight: Kristen Kehl

Meet second term Wild Keeper, Kristen! Kristen is based in Georgia and has recently found the benefits of nature. She shared, "during the pandemic I needed to find something to do outside of being at home. I started walking the neighborhood parks and noticed several having nature trails. The more I explored the more there was to see." So far, her most memorable experience has been coming across several animals while walking the local marshland reserve near her, the scariest being a water moccasin and the most exciting was a 5ft alligator! Her favorite ways to get outdoors is on nature trails and through hiking.

Keep Nature Wild: Which would you pick between forests, mountains or desert?

Kristen: Forests!

KNW:What 3 things would you take with you if you were going to be stranded in the forest?

K: A tent, a sleeping bag, fire starter

KNW: Cabin, tent or hotel (or something else!)

K: Cabin!

KNW: What is your favorite thing about being a Wild Keeper?

K: It gives me motivation to continue walking and exploring my local area. We are a military family so no matter where we get stationed I have a hobby I love and can do anywhere!

KNW: What has picking up trash outdoors done for you?

K: It has given me a new way to introduce kindness to my kids. They join me for trash pickups often and understand how important it is to take care of the planet.

KNW: Roughly how many pounds do you think you've picked up since you became a Wild Keeper?

K: 20ish

KNW: What goals do you have for this year? (or beyond?)

K: To pursue a career that gives me purpose but also allows me the time and space to take care of myself and my family.
